The acts of speed, agility and quickness are what make the difference between winning and losing. The UM SAQ program is a soccer-specific program designed to develop these skills. Significant benefits of the program include co-ordination, strength and explosive power. All techniques and mechanics of SAQ are broken down into easy to understand and practical components.
SPEED
Solid arm mechanics, stride length and knee/foot positioning are all critical requirements in improving players speed. The practice of correct running mechanics will be a major advantage to players when competing.
AGILITY
The game of soccer demands the ability of players to change direction while fully in control of their body. Any loss of balance, speed and body control may result in losing the ball or allowing players to beat you. The agility part of the UM SAQ program teaches balance, co-ordination, controlled agility and reactive agility.
QUICKNESS
It is quickness which allows Christiano Ronaldo, Tierry Henry, Wayne Rooney, Didier Drogba to be the players they are. The force generated through the foot to the ground creates the acceleration needed by soccer players. It is the effort over the first five yards which allows players time and space. Only through repetition, good mechanics and hard work can players learn to explode from a static position instead of "pulling" their body forward. Quick feet and fast reaction drills are incorporated into the UM SAQ quickness program.
